Organization of the Maryland Public Assembly

The Assembly is organized and operates under the authority of Articles of Association which provide for a State Central Committee as its principle decision making body. The State Central Committee is composed of representatives from each of the counties, and Baltimore City, where there are active Assembly members.

The current members of the state central committee are:

Lee Havis, Chairman (Montgomery County)
James McLaughlin, Treasurer (Prince George's County)
Local committees are being organized through suitable voting in all counties where there are members. Each committee consists of those MPA members in the jurisdiction, and has important voting responsibility to consider and endorse candidates in their local jurisdiction. Endorsements are held by secret ballot in open endorsement sessions held in each jurisdiction before the applicable elections. The State Central Committee has important oversight responsibilities to the endorsement process and other aspects of the Assembly's operation, as set forth in more detail in the Articles of Association.

Three committees established by the State Central Committee have been active in the past, to establish current status and operation of the Assembly. They are :

* Platform Committee

* Public Information Committee

* Endorsement Procedures

The Assembly's organization will expand into all jurisdictions in the state according to the participation of local members. Each local committee may vote for a representative to serve on the state central committee, which in turn elects the state chairperson..
